This calculator adds tip to a bill total and splits it across people. It’s useful for restaurants, rideshares, and group tabs.
Many people tip on the pre‑tax subtotal, but norms vary. If your receipt shows a subtotal, that’s usually the cleanest base.
Splitting can produce repeating decimals. You can round per person or have one person cover the extra cents.
The total is: bill amount + (bill × tip%). Then it divides that total by the number of people. If your group splits unevenly, use this as a starting point and adjust by hand.
If one person had a much higher bill, a common approach is to split the tip proportionally: compute each person’s subtotal, then apply the same tip percent to each. This tool gives a quick even split for when the bill is shared evenly.
Tip norms vary by country and service type. Treat tip percent as a personal choice and local convention — the calculator is here to do the math, not set the rules.
If everyone ordered different items, you can compute each person’s subtotal and apply the same tip percent to each subtotal. That avoids arguments about who “should pay more” while keeping the math consistent.
For large groups, take a quick photo of the receipt before leaving. If someone disputes later, you have the numbers.
