This tool calculates a grade percentage from points earned vs points possible. If your class uses weighted categories, you may need a weighted calculator (not included on this page yet).

Why doesn’t my grade match my LMS?

Some systems drop lowest scores, weight categories, or exclude assignments marked as “practice.” Those rules can change the result.

How do I convert % to a letter grade?

Letter grades depend on your school’s scale (A=90–100, etc). Use the percentage and then apply your class syllabus scale.

How to use this grade calculator

Add up to five assignments. If your class uses categories (homework, quizzes, exams), you can use the weight fields to approximate that. If you leave weights blank, the calculator uses total points.

Worked examples

Simple points: You scored 84 points out of 100 total → 84%.

Weighted: Exams are 60% and homework is 40%. If you enter one exam average and one homework average with those weights, the result approximates your overall grade.

Common gotchas

Different grading scales: Letter grades (A/B/C) vary by school. Treat the letter as a convenience, not a guarantee.

Dropped/curved assignments: If your class drops the lowest score or applies a curve, enter the adjusted numbers your teacher provides.

Rounding: A class may round at the end (or not at all). Two systems can differ by 0.1–0.5% and still be “right.”

Make it more accurate

Use the same “points possible” your gradebook uses.

If an assignment is worth more points, that naturally weights it more even without using the weight fields.

“What do I need on the final?” (quick method)

If your class tells you the final exam weight (for example, 30%), you can estimate the needed final score by treating your current average as one “assignment” and the final as another, then setting weights to match. It won’t be perfect, but it’s a fast way to see the range.

Tips

Enter zeros for missing work only if your gradebook counts it as 0.
If your teacher drops the lowest score, remove that assignment from the inputs.
If weights must total 100%, adjust them so they add up (for example, 60 + 40).
